Nourish Your Body, Support Your Recovery
Real food. Real science. Real hope. Physician-led programs that help prevent, manage, and recover from cancer (one meal at a time).
Cancer doesn’t define you. Whether you’re focused on prevention, in active treatment, or rebuilding your strength, your food choices can make a powerful difference.
Let’s Talk About Cancer (Preventing It & Fighting It)
Did you know that cancer is the second leading cause of death in the U.S., and nearly 40% of people will face a diagnosis in their lifetime?
The good news: 30–50% of cancers can be prevented by changing what we eat, how we live, and reducing exposures like tobacco, excess sun, and harmful chemicals.
With or without a diagnosis, what you eat matters. The Plant Docs team helps you harness the power of nutrition to protect, strengthen, and heal your body.
How Does What You Eat Affect Cancer?
Nutrient-dense, anti-cancer foods (like broccoli sprouts, blueberries, soy, tomatoes, flaxseed, onions, and citrus) can:
Prevent healthy cells from turning cancerous
Slow the growth of blood vessels that feed tumors
Decrease the spread of cancer cells
Boost immune function through natural killer (NK) cells
Promote apoptosis (cancer cell death)
MYTH VS. FACT:
What You Eat Matters
-
Fact: Good nutrition is very important during and after a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Eating nourishing, plant-based foods can help strengthen the immune system, support recovery, improve energy, and may even lower the risk of cancer coming back.
-
Fact: Eating 1-3 servings of soy products per day is considered safe for most breast cancer patients and survivors. Soy contains plant compounds called phytoestrogens, which do not act like the body’s estrogen in a way that fuels cancer, in fact, research suggests soy may have protective benefits in preventing breast cancer development and progression.
-
Fact: Diet plays a big role in colon cancer risk. Eating lots of red and processed meats, and too few fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, can increase the risk — while a fiber-rich, mostly plant-based diet can help protect your colon and overall health.
-
Fact: Research shows that a high-quality, plant-focused diet — rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats — can help slow the progression of prostate cancer and support overall health. Plant-predominant diets may reduce inflammation, improve hormone balance, and help maintain a healthy weight, all of which are linked to better outcomes for men with prostate cancer.
